Ramon P. FloresDecember 7, 1928 – August 13, 2026
Ramon P. Flores of El Paso, Texas, passed away on August 13, 2026, at 97 years old, surrounded by his family.
Born in El Paso on December 7, 1928, Ramon lived a life that spanned nearly a century of change. He raised a large family, served his country during times of war, experienced both deep loss and great joy, and remained open to the many people who became part of his life.
Ramon proudly served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7). His military service included World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, taking him far from his hometown and shaping an important part of his life story.
While stationed in Germany, Ramon welcomed his first daughter, beginning a new branch of his family that now includes children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who carry his legacy forward.
Despite the hardships of military life, Ramon remained a gentle and fair man. He believed in doing the right thing, treating others with respect, and listening with an open mind. His family often remembered that in nearly a century of life, he received only one speeding ticket a small detail that reflected his steady and careful nature.
Ramon lived with integrity rather than claiming perfection. He learned from experience, reflected on life, and remained open to others’ perspectives without allowing hardship to harden him.
After his military service, Ramon built a life centered on family. He shared his later years with his beloved wife, Guadalupe Flores, and fully embraced her family as his own. To him, family extended beyond blood, and he welcomed others with warmth and belonging.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carmen Flores, who was part of an earlier chapter of his life in a book full of memories.
Ramon was the father of a large family and is survived by six living children, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also endured the loss of children and grandchildren throughout his life, carrying these sorrows quietly while continuing to love those around him.
He was also a valued member of his church community, where he was known for his wisdom and steady presence.
Those who knew him will remember the simple parts of his daily life his crossword puzzles, occasional reflections written on paper, and the poems he spontaneously shared. He remained curious, thoughtful, and engaged with the world around him.
Even after all he had experienced, Ramon remained gentle.
To his family, he was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, protector, and steady presence whose life spanned generations and continents.
In his final days, he was surrounded by loved ones who cared for him and reminded him how deeply he was loved.
I watched my father live what felt like three lifetimes in one.
He served his country, traveled the world, built a family across generations, experienced love and loss, welcomed others as his own, and remained committed to fairness and kindness throughout his life.
Ramon leaves behind a legacy far greater than his years.
It lives in his children. It lives in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.It lives in the family and community he embraced. It lives in the values he quietly demonstrated every day.
Ramon lived a long and remarkable life, and his greatest legacy was the kind of man he chose to be fair, forgiving, welcoming, thoughtful, and gentle.
His family will always be proud to be part of his story.
May he rest in peace, reunited with those who went before him and forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved him.
