Ramon Aviña Montes

Ramon Aviña Montes, 87, passed away after an illness on April 3, 2007. Born on November 27, 1919 in El Paso, Texas, he lived a long and colorful life, living through the Depression and serving in Roosevelt’s Conservation Corps as a youth. Volunteering to serve his country, he served honorably in the Navy during World War II. Having lived in California and Arizona as a young man, he returned to live in his native El Paso. He was a skilled carpenter and avid reader. He had an admirable work ethic and lived his life honestly and decently, serving as an excellent role model to his children. He was preceded in death by his parents: Teodoro and Petra Montes and his brothers and sisters. He was a devoted family man, beloved husband and father, and is survived by his wife, Concepción H. Montes; sons: Raymundo, Mario, and Eduardo; and daughters: Rachel Reynoso and Irma Montes-Gómez. Much-loved grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his granddaughters: Jennifer and Stefanie Montes; Erica, Lauren, and Ariele Montes; Bianca and Monique Reynoso; grandson, Matthew Montes; and great-grandson, Michael Julian Reynoso. Beloved father-in-law, he is survived by daughters-in-law: Linda Montes, Barbara Montes, and Maria Montes, and sons-in-law: Luciano Gómez and Victor Reynoso. He will be greatly missed by his family, extended family, and friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 9, 2007 from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. with a Vigil/Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Homes – Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 9025 Diana Dr., at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Interment at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
