Ramona Saucedo

February 14, 1919 — March 13, 2016

RAMONA RAMIREZ SAUCEDO, passed away at the age of 97 on Sunday, March 13, 2016, in El Paso, TX. Born on Friday, February 14, 1919, in San Elizario, TX, Ramona was the daughter of Francisco Gomez Ramirez of Guadalupe, Mexico and Apolonia Trujillo of San Elizario, TX. She and her six brothers and four sisters grew up in a loving home on a cotton farm in San Elizario, with extended family and friends close by. Ramona, known as Mom, Nana, Grandma, Great Grandma, Great-Great Grandma, Tia, Nina, Ramoncita and dear friend, was a wonderful, warm-hearted person, who enjoyed every day to its fullest. She shared her love of family, faith, treasured memories and wealth of historical facts, documenting the legacy of her life with her passion of taking and preserving photos. Ramona was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In 1936, Ramona met Simon Saucedo, and they married on February 25, 1942 at San Elceario Catholic Church. They were separated when World War II broke out and Simon enlisted in the U.S. Army, but were reunited upon his discharge in May of 1943. They later moved into the now historical adobe home (adjacent to then Salazar Bar/Dance Hall) on Glorietta Road and Main Street in San Elizario, TX, where they raised five children. In 1975, they relocated from San Elizario to a home in the northeast area of El Paso, TX, where they spent the remainder of their 63 year-long marriage together, until Simon’s passing on Tuesday, December 28, 2004. As Simon had wished, Ramona continued to live in their home until her passing on March 13, 2016. Ramona was preceded by her parents, Francisco G. Ramirez and Apolonia Trujillo. She was further preceded by her beloved husband, Simon Saucedo, Sr., passed on December 28, 2004, their son, USA SP5 Simon Saucedo Jr., passed on October 5, 2001, and devoted daughter-in-law Bennett P. Saucedo, passed on November 9, 2014, all of whom are buried at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in Fort Bliss, TX, where Ramona will also be laid to rest with her husband Simon. Ramona is survived by her 4 children: Alice Mata (devoted ex, Albert); Daniel Saucedo, Sr. (Angie); Nora Casillas (Albert); and US Army MSG (Ret.) Ruben Saucedo, Sr. (Martha).
