Raul "Rudy" Lucero was born July 23, 1947, and grew up in the San Jose area of El Paso. He graduated from Ysleta High School in 1964, at the age of 16. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Air force, where he served four years as an Air Policeman and promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Raul served a tour in Ankara Turkey, then was reassigned to Whiteman's AFB, MO. While assigned there, he married his high school sweetheart, Emilia Rosales, and had his first son, David.
In 1972 "Ruly" as he was known by his coworkers, hired out with Southern Pacific Railroad and after 39 years of service he retired as a yardmaster form the Union Pacific
Railroad. During this time, he had his second son, Gabriel, and his daughter Rachel.
Raul is survived by his wife of 46 years Emily "Filo" Lucero, children David, Gabriel, and Rachel Norman. Father Ambrosio Lucero, siblings Jesus, Fernando, Linda, Martha and Patricia. Daughter-in-law Maria, grandchildren Salina, Gabriel, Emily and Jenny. Great grandchildren Isaiah, Isaac, and Arron.
Raul will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation from 6:00pm-9:00pm with Vigil/Rosary at 7:00pm, Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home-East. Funeral Mass at 9:45am, Friday, July 31, 2015 at Little Flower Catholic Church.
