Ray Adkins

Ray Adkins, 82, SFC US Army Retired, passed away at a local hospital, Tuesday, November 21, 2006 in El Paso, TX. He was born in Attica, Arkansas and entered the US Army in World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater of war until the end of WWII. He was a career soldier stationed at Ft. Bliss, with overseas tours in Germany, Korea, and France. He retired at Fort Hamilton, NY on December 1, 1963 following his tour of duty in France. Following his retirement, he was employed at Fort Bliss as a civilian until his retirement in 1988. He is survived by his wife, June of El Paso, TX; 2 sons, Larry Adkins and his wife, Becky Adkins, of El Paso, TX; and Rob Adkins and wife Patricia of El Paso, TX; three grandsons: Timothy Adkins and his wife of El Paso, Texas, Troy Adkins of El Paso, Texas, and Roger Adkins and wife Kelly Adkins of The Colony, Texas; 3 great grandsons, Cory Adkins and Kellen Adkins of El Paso, Texas and Connor Adkins of the The Colony, TX; 2 great granddaughters: Gwenyth and Teah Adkins of El Paso, TX; one brother, Jess Adkins and wife Dolores Adkins of Fairborn, Ohio; one sister Ann Lackey of Lubbock, TX; and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Clarence Adkins and mother Viola Dees. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, November 26, 2006 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast. Funeral Service 9:30 a.m., Monday, November 27, 2006 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Pallbearers will be: Tim Adkins, Troy Adkins, Richard Jones, Albert Einhellig, Andrew Smithson, and Rick Osborn. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Rescue Mission of El Paso.
