Raymond D. Harris

Raymond Douglas Harris was born to Herman and Minnie Harris of Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 24, 1949. Raymond graduated from the historic Booker T, Washington High with the class of 1969. He met a young Lady by the name of Sophia while working at the Petroleum Club of Tulsa, Oklahoma. After a courtship, they united in matrimony on August 2, 1970. Two children were born of this marriage; son Raymond D. Harris II of El Paso, Texas and daughter, Catherine Harris of Phoenix, Arizona. Raymond entered the US Army - as a career soldier - shortly after he and Sophia were married and attended Basic Training at Fort Leonardwood, MO. After Basic Training, he received training as a Welder and was assigned to the Republic of South Korea. He has received subsequent overseas assignments to Okinawa, Japan, West Germany and Hawaii. Raymond retired at the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC) October 31, 1988, in El Paso, Texas. Subsequent to his retirement, Raymond adopted his grandchildren: Felicia Harris, Ebony Harris and LaSheba Harris so they would qualify for benefits that were ineligible for grandchildren. Raymond was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church of El Paso TX where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry, Usher, and taught Bible Study and Sunday School. Raymond made his transition on December 20, 2021. His parents Herman Harris and Minnie Harris-Barnett, brothers Herman Harris, Jr., Winfred A. Harris, Richard H. Harris, Clarence F. Harris, Ronald L. Harris, Melvin B. Harris and Billy Ray Harris preceded him in death. Remaining to cherish his precious memory: Children Raymond Harris II, (wife Rebecca) El Paso, TX, Catherine Harris Phoenix, AZ, Felicia Harris-Wooten (Husband Devante) US Army, Ebony Harris, El Paso, TX and LaSheba Harris, El Paso, TX Brothers: ’Herbert Harris Sr. (wife Clarissa), El Paso, TX and Larry D. Harris Tulsa, OK. Sisters: Linda Harris, Oklahoma City, OK and Angela Harris of Tulsa, Ok, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of beloved family and friends. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 PM, with Prayer Service at 6:00 PM, on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 PM, on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 3201 Frutas. Committal Service will take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Raymond D.
