Raymond J. Ortiz

October 28, 1966 – June 8, 2026

Raymond J. Ortiz, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, at the age of 59, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. After a courageous and hard-fought four-year battle with cancer, Raymond went home to be with our Heavenly Father. Throughout his illness, he remained a beacon of happiness, joy, and unwavering strength, never letting the battle dim his spirit.

A lifelong resident of El Paso, Texas, Raymond was born and raised in the community he loved. He spent his life working as a talented welder and dedicated 15 years of service to Texas Gas Service. Raymond was a true craftsman who loved the outdoors and working with his hands. He loved taking his RV out for camping and fishing trips, painting, and building things with his bare hands. He was happiest spending quality time with his family, being out on the lake on his Sea-Doo, standing by the grill—where nobody made a better steak or pizza potato than Grandpa—and loving on the family pets, his beautiful Schnauzers, Ashley, Amber, and Crystal Ann.

Above all, Raymond was a man of deep faith who loved God and Jesus, and whose greatest joy was his family. He was the absolute best husband, father, and grandfather, always filling his home with laughter, fun, and unconditional love. Raymond was also a loyal and wonderful friend throughout his life, bringing warmth, kindness, and a helping hand to everyone who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ramon and Magdalena Ortiz.

Raymond’s legacy of love, joy, and strength lives on through his cherished wife, Velvet Ortiz; his loving children, Aaron Ortiz, Giovanni Ortiz, Celina, Vivian, Christina, and Larry; his sister, Norma Ortiz; and his 13 grandchildren, who will forever remember him as the best Grandpa in the world. He also leaves behind a large, loving extended family of tias, tios, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him immeasurably.

Expressions of Gratitude

The Ortiz family wishes to express their deepest, lifelong gratitude to Raymond’s beloved aunt and uncle, Veronica and David. Whether providing unwavering support through times of illness or stepping in to handle everything when it was needed most, their boundless love, presence, and extraordinary generosity have been a profound blessing.

Special thanks are also extended to Uncle Choche, Linda, and Sandy, Dolores, Alma,  Lisa and Steve whose continuous support, comforting cards, a helping hand with cleaning, and warm meals brought so much relief and love into our home. The family sends an abundance of gratitude to their beautiful neighbors, who grew up with Raymond since childhood and provided endless support and love throughout this journey. A very special thanks goes to their wonderful neighbor, Maria Sanchez, who consistently showered them with affection, called often to check in, and brought over delicious, home-cooked meals during the holidays.

The family also extends their heartfelt thanks to the incredible medical professionals at Texas Oncology: his oncologist, Dr. Aloba; his surgeon, Dr. Avery Walker; and his wonderful nurses—including Patty, Darlene, Celina, and the entire nursing staff. Also a special thank to his Doctor Jorge Ibarra for many years of special care he provided. A very special thank you goes to Crystal, who always welcomed Raymond, checked his blood pressure, and provided gentle care and comfort before his appointments.
