LTC Retired Raymond J. Snare Jr. passed away on November 20, 2015 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by wives, Barbara Snare and Shirley Snare. His wife Marcia was at his side. Born and raised in Waco, Texas to parents Sarah Brame Snare and Raymond Snare Sr. Raymond is survived by his younger brother Robert Snare (Marilyn) who lives in Chatsworth, California. Raymond and Barbara (his first wife) have five children: Margie, Judy, (Tom), Mike, Charlie, (Ann), Marybeth (Austin Jr.), four grandchildren Sarah (Bobby), Sydney, Barbara and Amanda and two great grandchildren Faith and Calum. Raymond graduated from Texas Western College (UTEP) on June 1, 1952. He then joined the National Guard and later joined the U.S. Army for a total of 37 years of service before he retired in 1989. He had a passion for education and was a long standing supporter of UTEP for over 20 years. A proud alumnus, Raymond was a life long student and attended classes until his health prevented him from attending any longer. As a proud Texan he held a membership of El Paso Corral of Westerners for many years. Raymond and his wife Marcia have been active members of St. Marks United Methodist Church for twenty-five years and long time supporters of St. Marks Brass Band. The Snare family sends their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff of Sun Ridge at Desert Springs for taking care of my loving husband, Father, Brother, and Paw Paw/Grandpa Ray.
