Richard Louis Schultz, Sr., 82, of El Paso, Texas passed away on Monday, December 30, 2013. He was born in Canandaigua, New York on July 12, 1931 to Lloyd Solt and Beatrice Wheaton. He moved to Texas to join the U.S. Army, where he served for 6 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and a recipient of the Korean Service Medal with five Campaign Stars, a Presidential Unit Citation, one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation.
Known as “Horsefeathers” to fellow CB’ers, he enjoyed a 50-year career as a long-haul trucker, working for Kessler Industries, Utility Trailers and Old El Paso, from which he stubbornly retired after having his fingers pried from the steering wheel. He was also an avid fisherman, absolutely adored his dog, Suki, and truly enjoyed long chats over coffee with his fellow veteran friends, reminiscing over their service during the Korean War. He was a kind and gentle soul, and those whose lives he touched will miss him greatly.
Richard was predeceased by his parents and youngest son, Frankie, and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gloria (Muñoz), and his seven children, Patsy (Ronnie) Castillo of Temple, TX, Anna (Dan) Haddad of Farmersville, TX, Karl Schultz of El Paso, TX, Kathy Schultz (Jeff Wagner) of Paradise Valley, AZ, Denise Schultz (Andric Diaz) of Jacksonville, FL and Richard Schultz, Jr. (Annette Duronslet), of El Paso, TX; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Other surviving children from a previous marriage include Deborah (David) Murphy of Madison, MS and Richard Schultz of Shortsville, NY. Also left to cherish his memory are his sister, Barbara (Roger) Zimmerman of Canandaigua, NY, Donna (Tom) Trautman of Rochester, NY, as well as numerous cousins on the East Coast.
