Rita Catherine Dorney, 78 passed away peacefully in her home December 7, 2014. Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Survived by her husband of 61 years, Thomas and four children, Liz Sandidge (Marty), Thomas Dorney Jr. (Letty), Colonel John Dorney (Kristina), and Vicki Sauerhage (Mike). She had 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Forbes who killed in the Korea Conflict, her sisters Margaret Kennedy and Betty Roosemann. Rita was born on September 11, 1936 in Queens, New York, she married the love of her life Tom on June 2, 1953. They spent 28 years travelling the world, during Tom’s military career, retiring in El Paso in 1973. Rita retired from AT&T in 1987. She was an advocate for the unborn, the poor and the lonely. Rita was a talented and published writer of poetry, she was also a gifted artist. She felt her greatest accomplishments were her children and her greatest treasures her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home-West, 480 N. Resler. Eulogies will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 5:00 pm. Scripture service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 12:30 pm at Sunset Funeral Home-West and interment will follow at Ft Bliss National Cementary at 2:30.
