Robert Wayne Brockett, 72, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
Robert, known as “Wayne” to close family and friends, was born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina on August 25, 1953. He graduated from Wilby High School in Waterbury CT, then attended Wilberforce University in Wilberforce Ohio, to study Accounting. He soon answered the call to serve and joined the United States Army as a Finance Corps Specialist. While in the service, Robert met and married his devoted wife of 45 years, Mollie R. Davis, affectionally known as “Candy”.
After completing their military service, Robert and Mollie settled in her hometown of Gresham, SC where he managed a chain of local supermarkets. The family later moved to El Paso, TX where he worked for 2 years as a Production Line Supervisor at Continental Sprayers Inc. He went on to successfully manage what was at that time the largest TARGET Superstore in the region, doing so for eleven years until his retirement.
From a very early age, Robert had a passion for learning and literature, delving deeply into the history and fabled stories surrounding settlement of the American West. An avid football/basketball fan and collector of sports paraphernalia, he rarely missed a Washington Redskins (Commanders) or Los Angeles Lakers game. Though the house may have been divided on game days, his family remained closest to his heart.
Robert is preceded in death by his mother - Aldon (Ella) Brockett Dance and father - Royal E. Dance. He leaves behind his loving wife - Mollie R. Brockett, daughter – Robert’a V. Brockett-Hemingway (Jervis), son - Stacy V. Speaks (Rosemary), daughter - Brittany M. Brockett, sister - Erika L. Dance, 7 grandchildren, cousin – Charles “Pete” Lee (Angel) who was a brother to him, cousin – Dorothy “Wilhelmina” Jacobs, who was a sister to him, and a host of beloved family and friends.
Funeral Services and interment will be conducted on a later date, at Florence National Cemetery, Florence, SC. Repast will be held in Gresham, SC. Further details for these events will be provided by the family, once final coordination is made. We appreciate your patience
