Robert Distler, Sr. of El Paso, TX, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2018 at the age of 88. Born in Jefferson City, Missouri, Robert joined the army in 1952. He married his wife Ernestine in 1957. He retired and moved to El Paso from White Sand Missile Range in 1972 after 20 years of military service. He worked in Civil Service at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, and was a faithful member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. In later years he could be found at the church every day of the week: attending morning mass and performing services for the church.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife. He is survived by his sister Dolores Knernschield, brother Leroy Distler, children Catherine Collins (Michael), Robert Distler, Jr., John Distler (Valerie), James Distler (Jody), Teresa White (Stephen), eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Thank you to his special companion Phyllis Ottum. He missed her visits and root beer popsicles. Thank you to Bernie Collins, for her dedicated friendship and service, especially bringing communion. We will miss his wit, directness, hard candy and two dollar bills.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 Pm to 9:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM on Monday December 3, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday December 4, 2018 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Committal Service to follow at 11:00 AM Tuesday December 4, 2018 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Interment is Private
