Roger Joseph St. Cyr

October 25, 1919 — April 9, 2017

Roger Joseph St. Cyr was born October 25, 1919 in New Roads, Louisiana. He grew up in a family of six: his precious parents, Edward and Dora, his sister Edna and his brother Phillip who he has joined, Uncle “Slowly” aka Uncle Edward and Auntie Jewell who resides in New Roads, Louisiana. Roger was a great man with a heart of gold. He was inducted into the El Paso Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1999 and received several bowler’s rings of fame; two for bowling 300 games and one for bowling a 800 series game. While serving his country in the United States Army for Twenty Six years, he was not only a Physical Activities Specialist and an Athletic Instructor he also served as a Paratrooper for the 82nd Air Borne. He was the first Black Glider man in his Air Borne Division. He served in the Korean War and is a WWII Veteran. He received the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leave Cluster. He was on the Army basketball team, baseball team, and volleyball team. He coached little league baseball, worked with special needs children for the EPISD and served as a Supervisor for the Mail Room for twenty six years for the same school district. He was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus at Christ the Savior Catholic Church. He grew up in the Church and after retirement, the church became a larger part of his life. Before meeting his wife of 71 years, he thought of becoming a Priest. He was a traveler to his friends who were home bound. They were important to him and he let them know with many visits. He was a kind, generous and thoughtful man who touched many lives. He is survived by his lovely wife of 71 years, Ann Bajoie-St.Cyr, five sons; Roger, Michael, Patrick, Gerald, Terrell and Jeffrey, four daughters; Marie, Gwendolyn, Magdlyn and Stephanie, numerous Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. He was a father to his daughter and son in-laws. He is now with three of his children, Carmen, Christopher and Anthony. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with a Vigil/Rosary at 6:00pm on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Christ the Savior Catholic Church, 5301 Wadsworth Avenue. Funeral Mass will begin at 9:30am on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Christ the Savior Catholic Church. Committal Service to follow at 11:00am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
