Rolando Ronulfo Ponce, 84, was called to his Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 16, 2015. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He is preceded in death by his wife Estela Peña Ponce and their son, Raymond Rene Ponce. He is survived by daughters Virginia, Lisa, Noelia, Cynthia; son, Rolando Jr.; five grandsons, seven great grandsons; his sisters Dina Duran and Delia Sanchez and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rolando was born to Antonio Ponce and Celia Olivares in Rio Grande City, Texas, on May 27, 1931. It was there that he met and married his wife, Estela, in 1952. He served proudly in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired as a Sergeant First Class after a full career in the United States Army. He then served as a USPS letter carrier until retiring in 1989.
Rolando was a devout member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Compassionate and generous to those in need, he loved to laugh and was immensely proud of his family. His trust was earned, his consideration given openly and his friendships devout. He gave selflessly to better the lives of his family and was most fulfilled when their aspirations were realized.
Rolando will be deeply respected and lovingly missed.
