ROMELIA M. (Romie) APODACA, age 75, beloved wife, loving mother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on March 21, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Romie was born in Chamberino, New Mexico. She graduated from Gadsden High School in 1960. She worked at Romney Produce in El Paso and later at New Mexico State University. After this, she began her career in Federal Civil Service with the Corp. of Engineers in Lompoc, CA and retired with the Department of Agriculture in Miami, FL, after 25 years of dedicated service. Romie will be remembered always for her love of jogging around the lake close to her home in Miami, always protecting herself from the Sun. Romie is survived by her loving husband of 50 years Antonio M. Apodaca of Miami, loving daughter Carrie Ann Apodaca of El Paso, sister Flora Chavira and husband Roberto of San Diego, brother Joe Valtierra and wife Carmen of Chamberino, sister Elva Muñoz and husband Carlos of Vado, sister-in-law Bertha Valtierra (†Ernie) of El Paso, and numerous nieces, nephews cousins, grand nieces, and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Otilia Valtierra and brothers Ernie, Jeff, and Manny Valtierra. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home-West, 480 N. Resler. The Rite of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 5750 Doniphan Drive. Interment will follow at the Chamberino Cemetery in Chamberino, New Mexico. Serving as pallbearers will be Carlos Muñoz, Jacob Valtierra, Tony Martinez, Fulgencio Saiz, Toby Provencio, and Noel Martinez. Services have been entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West, 480 N.
