Rosa del Carmen Fierro de Ochoa, age 84, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 14, 2025. Carmen was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend, and will be dearly missed.
Carmen spent her early years with her parents in beloved Praxedis G. Guerrero "San Ignacio", Chihuahua. Her father, Don Andres C. Fierro was a pioneer in the cotton farming industry, as well as one of the founders of El Club de Los Leones de Ciudad Juárez. Her mother, Aurelia, affectionately known as Lela, managed the local general store Casa Fierro. She attended Guardian Angel Catholic School in El Paso, Texas. Carmen proudly held the title of La Reina del Club de Los Leones in 1959. She fondly reminisced about her time as a boarder at Loretto Academy, where she graduated in 1960, cherishing the friendships she formed with her fellow Loretto Angels. Following her time at Loretto, Carmen attended Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. She met her husband of 59 years, Carlos, on a blind date set up by her future sister-in-law, Nena.
Together, Carmen and Carlos raised two daughters, while she pursued a successful career in accounting, embodying the spirit of a sharp-dressed, working woman of the 1980s. She especially loved her time working with the El Paso Community Foundation. Carmen was well known for her fierce outgoing personality, her unique contagious laugh, and her love of spending time with others. Carmen was a proud member of the distinguished El Club Botón Rojo. She was an active member of the Pan American Round Table and participated in the Pan American Youth Group, where she volunteered with children at the Transitional Living Center. She volunteered at the Texas Workforce Commission helping those less fortunate with their bookkeeping needs. Carmen was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society.
Carmen had an undeniable spirit of exploration. She was a well-known world traveler, having journeyed throughout the world to countless spectacular countries. She cherished these memories of her time spent with her beloved family and friends. Each journey was a tapestry woven with laughter, adventure, and a shared sense of discovery. Carmen was an avid dog lover, appreciating all breeds, especially the less attractive ones. Throughout her life, she found strength and community through her faith, family and friends.
Carmen is preceded in death by her parents, Andres C. Fierro and Maria Aurelia Mendias, as well as her siblings: Hortencia Fierro de Alatorre, Andres Fierro Rodela, Hector Armandino Fierro Rodela, and Carolina Fierro de Porras. She is survived by her beloved husband, Carlos Antonio Ochoa, her daughters Ana Patricia Hunt and Blanca Isabel Schatzman (John Ring Jr.), her sister Maria Teresa Fierro de Martinez, and her cherished grandchildren: Madeleine Aurelia Schatzman, John Ring Schatzman III (John John), Jules Edward Schatzman, and Margaux Rose Hunt. Carmen is also survived by many extended family members and friends who will cherish and honor her memory. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale, Santa Fe Group, Elara Hospice, Lupita Delgado Salgado, Viridiana Castillo Delgado, Maria Pilar Rodriguez, José Luis Márquez and their unending gratitude to Irma Lopez, for her loyalty and dedication throughout the years.
