Rosario Reyna de Ortega

Rosario Reyna de Ortega, 88, passed away on Thursday, February 19th, 2026.

Born Rosario Reyna De la Vega in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Rosario lovingly known as “Chayito” graduated from Jesus and Mary School in El Paso, TX and subsequently attended Lydia Patterson Institute.

Rosario was the first woman editor of the society pages of El Fronterizo newspaper in Juarez. She subsequently met and married the love of her life Juan Ortega in June 1963, living throughout Mexico and raising three children before settling in El Paso.

Her tenacity and determination are strengths that served her well throughout her life. She loved fiercely and fought through adversity until her last day of her life. Her smile was contagious and full of love; she was up for most any adventure even to join a roller-coaster ride.

She was a passionate cook who shared her favorite recipes with her children and grandchildren.

Rosario is preceded in death by her parents Nazario and Gabriela, her loving husband Juan and her beloved sister Martha. She leaves behind her much-loved children and grandchildren, sons Luis and Juan, daughter Gabriela, as well as their families.

Rosario will be cremated and mass will be held at a later date.

Rosario Reyna de Ortega, de 88 años, falleció el jueves, 19 de febrero del 2026. Nacida como Rosario Reyna De la Vega en Ciudad Juárez, México. Rosario, conocida cariñosamente como “Chayito”, se graduó del Colegio Jesús y María en El Paso, Texas, y posteriormente asistió al Instituto Lydia Patterson.

Rosario fue la primera mujer editora de la sección de sociedad del periódico El Fronterizo de Juárez. Posteriormente, conoció y se casó con el amor de su vida, Juan Ortega, en junio de 1963. Vivió en México y crió a sus tres hijos antes de establecerse en El Paso.

Su tenacidad y determinación fueron fortalezas que le fueron muy útiles a lo largo de su vida. Amó con fervor y luchó contra la adversidad hasta el último día de su vida. Su sonrisa era contagiosa y llena de amor; estaba dispuesta a afrontar casi cualquier aventura, incluso subirse a una montaña rusa.

Era una cocinera apasionada que compartía sus recetas favoritas con sus hijos y nietos.

A Rosario le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Nazario y Gabriela, su amado esposo, Juan, y su querida hermana, Martha. Deja atrás a sus queridos hijos y nietos, sus hijos Luis y Juan, y su hija Gabriela, así como a sus familias.

Rosario será incinerada y se celebrará una misa más adelante.
