Rose E. Alcala

April 4, 1925 — September 14, 2015

Rose E. Alcala was born April 4, 1925 to Juan and Bernadina Espinoza in San Antonio, Texas. On Monday, September 14, 2015 she was called home to be with the Lord after long battles with cancer and Alzheimer’s. She was 90 years old. At age 18, she married Thomas B. Alcala and 11 years later, they made El Paso their home. Together they raised eight wonderful children. Rose was preceded in death by her husband Tom; her daughter Anna; and son Gene. Left to cherish her memories are daughters Terry Meza (Ernie Sr.) and Linda Harvey (Terry); sons: Tom (Anne), Carlos (Norma), Bobby (Carmen) and Danny as well as 23 Grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. “Rosie” lived for her family and the Catholic Church. She worked tirelessly for the church in many capacities for over 50 years. Parishioners at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church admired and respected her devotion, commitment and generosity. They could always count on her to lend a hand anytime help was needed. She inspired her family with her strength, faith, unconditional love, and willingness to readily give of herself in the service of others through the church. She retired in 2004 after many wonderful years of service to the priests, sisters, students and teachers of Blessed Sacrament Parish and School. She was always very civic minded and served as Elections Poll Judge in Precinct 66 & 68 for many years. Both Rosie and Tom believed very much in education and sent all their children to private schools and higher education. Our family is especially grateful to Dr. James Spier for the surgical miracle he performed in 1975 giving our Mother a second chance at life, to caregivers Marta Briseno and Mari Reyes for the loving care they provided, and to the staff of Bien Vivir for their assistance and service during her final years. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00pm on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Scripture Service will begin at 8:30am on Friday, September 18, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Committal Service will follow at 9:45am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
