Ruben Gonzalez

Ruben Gonzalez, 61, passed away on July 18, 2013. He was born October 23, 1951 and was a lifetime resident of El Paso, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Aurora Gonzalez and brother, Hector. He was a UTEP graduate with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and education. He enlisted into the U.S. Army from 1975-1977 and was honorably discharged. He was a disabled veteran for the last 17 years and retired from the USPS. Ruben, a huge Dallas Cowboy fan, was an avid basketball player and coach for many years. He was a kind, loving, devoted father, friend and brother. Ruben is survived by his daughter; Sonia (Jason) McCullogh, his son Ruben Jr. (Yvonne) Gonzalez, and his son Mark Gonzalez. He had 6 grandchildren; Janessa, Alexis, Venae, Jason, Kaitlyn and Danielle and two great-grandchildren; Jude and Brooke. He is also survived by his sister; Cynthia Martinez and her 3 children. A Very heartfelt thanks to the medical team at UMC Hospital for their excellent care and compassion of Ruben in his final days. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 4:00-9:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas on 9521 North Loop with a Vigil at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 9:45am at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church, 4700 Delta Dr. Interment: Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
