Ruth Whitten Nelson

Ruth Whitten Nelson passed away at the Ambrosio Guillen Texas Veterans home on Decemeber 17, 2013 at the age of 99. Born in Shenandoah, Iowa on June 11, 1914. She moved to California in 1941. While working in a nursing home in Los Angeles she met Jim Nelson and married him in August of that year. Ruth also worked for a few manufacturing companies including Hughes Aircraft for 22 years before retiring in 1979. After retiring they traveled for a few years. Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband James E. Nelson, grandson Edward J. McCormick and daughter Mary Jo Gill. Survived by her daughter Ruth G. McCormick, son’s-in-law Francis McCormick and Gordon Gill of Yucca Valley, CA. Ruth’s six grandchildren: Amy Riley, Judy McAdams, Emily Currie, Abbey Gill, Jeanette Hynes, Nancy Cardona and ten great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Committal Service will be held at 10:00am on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast and White’s Funeral Home- Azusa, CA.
