On January 12, 2023, at the age of 100, Lily Ruth Waldrep Robins Reeves passed away peacefully at her home in El Paso, Texas.

Ruth was born to Ila Lou Owens and James Clarence Waldrep in Greenville, S.C. on July 22, 1922. She was the youngest of three children and as a child was an accomplished singer, performing solos at local churches during all religious holidays. As a teen ager, she enjoyed sports, playing the position of pitcher or catcher on the baseball team. In high school and college, she played basketball earning the coveted school letter and becoming an avid sports fan.

Ruth earned her college degree from Furman University and continued her graduate education at the University of Charleston, the University of Maryland, the University of Maine and the University of Texas.

She worked for the Civil Service in California, Japan, South Carolina, Germany and France. She taught school in Japan, Germany, France, Louisiana and Texas. She was a long-time educator in El Paso County and retired from teaching from the Canutillo Independent School District. Ruth was a member of the Texas State Teacher’s Association, past President of the Canutillo Teacher’s Association and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She was active for many years in Thunderbird Chapter #1087 of the Eastern Star and was a past Matron.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lt. Col. Foye C. Robins and daughter, Rhonda Pace Robertson. Having married into the military life, Ruth spent 22 years traveling from post to post both in the United States and abroad. Upon retiring from active service, she and “Dutch” settled in El Paso.

She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Clyde E. Reeves. As he was from Baltimore, Maryland many trips were made to the east coast. An avid traveler, she had visited every state in the United States and many foreign countries.

She is survived by her son, Richard C. Robins of El Paso, TX and her daughter, Rita S. Robins of Sachse, TX five grandsons, two granddaughters and her long-time companion, Edgar F. Norton with whom she shared years of memories, laughter and love.

Honoring her request, her body will be cremated and interred with her late husband Lt. Col. Foye C. Robins (retired) at the Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Her warm smile and encouraging words will be remembered by many.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery; 5200 Fred Wilson Ave. El Paso, Texas 79906.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
