Scarbro Nations

Scarbro Nations, of El Paso, Texas, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by the love of his family.

Scarbro was born on January 5, 1936, in Copiah County, Mississippi, to Willie Sylvester Nations (April 17, 1898 - August 1969) and Lena Sarah Ashley Nations (January 11, 1900 - January 1981).

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, LC, John, Charles, Frank, Allie, and Roy Nations; and his sisters, Willena, Maggie Nell, and Shirley Nations. He is survived by his siblings, James and Billie Nations.

Scarbro proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from April 1955 to April 1959. In November of 1959, he moved to El Paso, Texas, where he began a long career of service to his community, joining the City of El Paso Fire Department in February 1960 and faithfully serving until his retirement in May 1985. He went on to work at Boeing from October 1985 to January 1998. Even in retirement, Scarbro always kept a part-time job, driven by his lifelong commitment to providing for his family.

Scarbro was a devoted member of Mt. View Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. His faith was the cornerstone of his life and guided everything he did.

Scarbro loved all sports and westerns - with one notable exception: he never did care for "them Dallas Cowboys." His sense of humor, Love of a good western, and passion for the game were well known to everyone who loved him.

Scarbro never met a stranger. He had a gift for striking up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and could make you feel like an old friend within minutes of meeting him.

Scarbro married the love of his life, Mary Ann Brown Nations, straight out of high school, and together they shared over 70 years of marriage. From the very beginning, he was completely devoted to her, and that devotion never wavered through the decades that followed. No matter what else was going on in his life, Mary Ann always came first. He cherished her, protected her, and stood by her side through it all, and their marriage stood as a testament to what it means to love someone for a lifetime.

Scarbro is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Brown Nations; his children, Scarlet Ann Nations James (Robert) and Alan Dwight Nations (Maria); his grandchildren, Aaron Joseph Clanan (Alex, Samuel Ambrose James (Christine), Elena Lozano, and his great-grandchildren, Savannah Denea James, and Noah Jimenez, Andrew Joseph Clanan, Kaytlynne Jane Clanan, and Aaric Mikael Clanan.

Scarbro's memorial service will include the songs "Stroll Over Heaven with You" by Alan Jackson, "Far Side Banks of Jordan" by Jimmy Fortune, and "Amazing Grace", all sung by Cliff Seaman.

Scarbro will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory and the example of his faith, service, and devotion to family will live on in each of them.

A Visitation will at held at 12:00 pm on Monday, August 03, 2026 with a Eulogy/Celebration of Life at 12:30 pm at Sunset Funeral Home- Northeast. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
