In Loving Memory of Sebastian Chavez Jr.

Sebastian Chavez Jr., 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. A devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and friend, Sebastian will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, love of family, and passion for music and automobiles.

Sebastian was born on October 4, 1952, in Van Horn. He graduated from Bowie High School and soon after proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Tank System Mechanic. His years of military service reflected the dedication, discipline, and strength that he carried throughout his life.

Following his service in the Army, Sebastian continued working on vehicles both professionally and as a personal passion. He was known for his mechanical skills, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others whenever needed. Outside of work, Sebastian enjoyed listening to rock and roll music and spending time with those he loved most.

Sebastian is survived by his daughters, Ernestina Chavez (Gustavo), Monica Chavez Urbina, and Irene Chavez Ali (Richard); his sons, Sebastian Chavez III (Cristina) and Romequez Antonio Chavez; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; his former wife and lifelong friend, Magdalena Guevara Cash; and his sister, Rosalinda Fonseca. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family.

Sebastian was preceded in death by his longtime partner, Pherbia Faye Tinsley, who passed away in 2012.

A Visitation and Rosary will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Homes - Northeast.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Homes - Northeast. Burial with military honors will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.

Sebastian Chavez Jr. will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
