Simma Esther Galston Leslie, 87, born in Rockaway, New York in 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bertram Lawrence Leslie; father, Sol Galston, mother, Rose Estee Galston. She is survived by daughters: Rudya Linkous (Rod), Idenne Whetsel (Dane); grandchildren: Virginia Trevey, Shawn and Shannon Kelley; Thomas Linkous; Tray, Zach, Nicholas and Dane Jr. Whetsel; and great grandchildren. Mrs. Leslie attended Far Rockaway High School, Columbia University, University of New Mexico and University of Texas at El Paso. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi; Phi Alpha Theta; Wallace Houghston Order of the Eastern Star; El Minya, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America; El Paso Museum of Art; Rosetta Temple, Daughters of the Nile; UTEP Friends of the Library; El Paso Zoo; Richard Burgess Library; NAUS; MOAA; SMW #30; Desert Sun, Red Hat Desert Royals; and Discover El Paso. She held the following Public Offices: PTA President, High Priestess, El Minya Court; Worthy Matron, Rose Croix OES; President Mystic Jewels, President Mainz Officers Wives Club; President Long Island Athletic Club, Editor Sandia Base Officers Wives Club Magazine. Other ventures included: Teacher El Paso Independent Schools, newspaper and travel columnist, published author, model Lord and Taylor; layout artist R.H. Macys, Protocol Officer, Telephone Operator, Civil Service. A Memorial Service will begin at 12:30pm, Friday, October 7, 2011, Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
