We are sad to announce the passing of Socorro Lira of El Paso, TX who passed away peacefully at age 102 on May 9, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Socorro was born on July 23, 1920 in Camargo, Chihuahua, to Julio Molina and Felipa Delgado Molina. Socorro is preceded in death by her loving husband, Andres Lira, and two siblings Julia Molina and Horacio Molina.
Socorro, the most loving and devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Aunt is survived by her brother Jose Molina; her daughters Martha Chacon (Andres Sr.), Rosa Sandoval (Juan), and Ana Lira (Jose); her grandchildren Andres Chacon Jr. (fiancé Vanessa Horbach), Monique Simpson (Travis), Claudio Lira (Rebecca), Adrian Sandoval (Kristie), Vanessa Zepeda (Miguel), Gabriel Lira (Jessica), and Luis Lira; her 8 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Socorro entered the United States as a young lady and proudly received her U.S. Citizenship on November 6, 1997. Socorro better known as “Grandma Coco” had many plants and flowers due to her green thumb, she nursed the injured stray birds, played card games, Loteria, quarter machines at the casino, cooked and baked. Socorro touched everyone she met through her happy nature, charitable giving, and loving treatment. Socorro’s great smile and big heart will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina, with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, May 18, 2023, 10:00 am, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 7712 S. Rosedale, followed by the interment at 11:30am, at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragoza.
