August 12, 1921 – December 26, 2015. 94 years. WWII Navy veteran in Okinawa. Wife was Manuela Mendoza deceased. Father of five children. Daughters Laura (Mendoza) Valdez and Esmeralda [Amy] (Mendoza) Webb, both deceased. Survived by sons Steve Mendoza Jr. and Emanuel Mendoza. Son George Mendoza deceased. Four grandchildren, Nellie Virginia (Valdez) Hathorn, Steve Mendoza III, John Phillip Valdez and Wendy (Mendoza) Anderson. Nine great grandchildren, Ethan John Hathorn, Ryan Adam Hathorn, Lauren Alexandria Hathorn, Hunter Michael Mendoza, Jake Dillon Valdez, Vincent Gavin Valdez, Chloe Renae Anderson, Sebastian Ayden Anderson and Victoria Autumn Anderson. Loving husband, father and good provider. He was a very hard and dependable worker all his life until his retirement at age 62 to care for his ailing wife. He enjoyed gardening, watching westerns and war movies.
Special appreciation to the professionals of La Familia Home Health who attended him through some difficult medical situations and were instrumental in giving him exceptional care and compassion on a daily basis. Also, thank you to the doctors of Texas Tech and the UMC staff that gave the best care possible. El Paso Hospice is to be commended for their compassionate and attentive care of his last days.
