Teresa Duran Peña

Teresa Duran Pena, age 76, loving mother of her two sons, passed away after a very courageous battle with cancer on July 24th; she was surrounded by her loving family.

Teresa "Terry" was born July 25^th, 1945, to her mom and dad Soledad Ybarra Duran, and Jacinto Duran, respectively.  Terry loved her family with all of heart. She had four siblings, Jacinto Duran, Rosa Martha Sinclair, Olga Arreola, and David Duran; her siblings loved Terry very much.

Terry was an amazing, beautiful mom to her two sons; she was an incredibly strong, loving, kind and generous woman.  She sacrificed for her son’s well-being and was fearless when taking on difficult circumstances on behalf of her family. She taught her sons how to become the men they are today.  She shaped their lives and made this world a beautiful place for them. Her sons have the most love, respect and admiration for one of the greatest women in history.

Terry loved life; she was courageous, brave, strong, and had joy in her heart.  She would always say “Life is a gift, enjoy every day, find the blessings”.  Terry had such a beautiful perspective on life and shared her perspective through faith with her incredible group of friends.  Her friends love her very much.  She shared the same passion and zest for life as she did about her occupation as a teacher and educator.  Terry was as an exceptional teacher and was often recognized by Administrators for her uncanny ability to capture the hearts and minds of the students she taught.  She always saw opportunity in her students to become thoughtful leaders.  Terry taught for 52 years; she retired from the El Paso Independent School district after 35 years and within the last year retired from Gadsden Independent School District after 17 years of teaching.

Terry is survived by her two sons, Vincent and Stephen Pena, and grand-daughters Sophia Ann Pena, Brynn Madison Pena, and Mabry Sol Pena.  Terry will be greatly missed by her family.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 5:00PM to 9:00PM, with a Rosary to follow at 7:00PM, at Sunset Funeral Home-West. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 11:00AM, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. A Graveside service will follow at 12:30PM, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
