Thomas Frederick Burdett, 92, our beloved husband and father, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.
Thomas, a native-born El Pasoan, graduated from El Paso High School and then left to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. He met the love of his life, Lieselotte, overseas and would later marry her in 1953.
After 23 years of military service, Thomas retired from the Army and returned to El Paso, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history (with honors) at the University of Texas at El Paso. As a lifelong student of military history and an avid collector of books about the subject, Thomas began his second career as curator of the S.L.A. Marshall Military History collection, a part of the UTEP Library’s Department of Special Collections.
He retired from UTEP at the age of 85 after decades of enjoyable service but his love of books continued until his passing.
He was a good man and a great husband and father. Thomas will be in our hearts forever.
Survived by wife, Lieselotte Burdett and daughter Anita Baldwin (nee Burdett).
Visitation and Funeral Service will be at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Homes Northeast. Committal Service will be at 2:30pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes Northeast.
