Thomas Moore

Thomas Holland Moore passed away due to complications following a brief battle with Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer at the Hospice El Paso Center for Compassionate Care-West on Monday, July 20, 2015 at the age of 87. Born and raised in El Paso in the shadow of the Franklin Mountains, Thomas was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He, his humor, stories and creativity will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Kurz Moore, daughter Holly Mathew (John) and son Lito Bujanda-Moore (Ruth); his grandchildren Michelle Mathew, Michael Graves, Jr., Kristin Mathew Deleon (Eric), Aidan Bujanda-Moore and Nadia Bujanda-Moore; great grandchildren Reeve and Aurora Graves and Aiden Deleon, his sister Imogen James, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Thomas graduated from Austin High School in 1946 and immediately joined the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. He was recalled during the Korean war for stateside service in 1950-1953, where he drew the comic strip “Chick Call” for a military newspaper. He was best known as a contributing artist and writer for Archie Comics in the 1950’s and 80’s. He also contributed gags and illustrations for Snuffy Smith, Mighty Mouse, and Underdog. He taught classes in computer and commercial art at El Paso Community College during the 1990’s. After retiring, he did some commercial art jobs and enjoyed camping in the Sacramento Mountains in New Mexico.
