Thomas Pryor Sanderson

March 19, 1926 — April 11, 2016

Thomas Pryor Sanderson passed away on April 11, 2016 at the age of 90. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-six years, Marguerite Haynie Sanderson. Tom was born on March 19, 1926 in El Paso. After graduating from Austin High School, he attended one year at Texas Western (UTEP), became a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, and received degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. With Marguerite, he moved to Schenectady, New York to work for General Electric and later relocated to Houston, Texas. Returning to El Paso in 1962, he took possession of his father’s business, the Yellow Cab Company and Grayline Sightseeing Tours. Tom was a WWII Navy Veteran, a member of Trinity First United Methodist Church, and a past member of the Downtown Rotary Club. He was an enthusiastic Longhorn fan with a particular fondness for college football and basketball. He was an avid runner and hiker. His hiking explorations were physically challenging and spiritually rewarding as he found much joy in the beauty of God’s earth. Tom and Marguerite loved to travel which fostered many lifelong friendships along the way. Their extensive travels included cruises and motor home expeditions throughout all fifty of the United States, Canada and Europe. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Pryor and Mary Hale Sanderson. He is survived by his daughters and husbands, Barbara and Tom Wood, and Kay and Robert Spiller; granddaughters and husbands, Christy and Kevin Dusek, and Virginia and Gregory Roberts; Grandson, Robert Spiller Jr.; great grandchildren, Brooke and Andrew Dusek. A memorial and interment ceremony will be held at First United Methodist Church in Bastrop, Texas May 7, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity First United Methodist Church of El Paso or your favorite charity. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
