Wardell Nathaniel Smalls

Wardell Nathaniel Smalls Sr., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. Wardell was born in Ridgeland, South Carolina on February 24, 1943. On May 26, 1957, he graduated from St. Anthony School in Savannah, GA. He then served in the US Army from 1964-1987. The recognition he received during this period of time included: National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Over Seas Ribbon (4) Drill Sergeant ID Badge, Army Commendation Medal (1) Oak leaf cluster, NCO professional Deployment Ribbon (3), Good Conduct Medal (6). He met Betty Jean White in 1966 in El Paso, TX. They wed for 23 years, separated and remarried in September 1999 until 2011. He loved fishing, hunting, and gambling. He is survived by his sons: Wardell N. Smalls Jr., Vardell Rufus Smalls; Grandchildren: Monique Smalls, Chantel Berry, Vardell Smalls Jr., Denzel Smalls, Jamie Smalls, Jaden Smalls; and Step Grandchildren, Brienne Kuhfals, Caressia R. Davis, and Adrienne Collie. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Committal Service will follow at 1:00pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
