William "Bill" Stanley Forbes

December 1, 1953 — September 8, 2016

William Stanley Forbes IV (Bill), of El Paso, TX passed away in his home suddenly on September 8, 2016. He was 62 years old. Bill is survived by his siblings, Judi Forbes-Tafoya of Las Cruces, NM, James L Forbes of Phoenix, AZ, Betsy Forbes-Brock of San Antonio, TX, and Jody Forbes of Durham, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents Jeanie Boyd Forbes and William S Forbes III and his younger brother John Gordon Forbes. Bill was born on December 1, 1953 in Würzburg Germany while his father was stationed there in the Army. Bill spent 2 years as a young boy at the National Jewish Hospital and Asthma Center in Denver Colorado being treated for severe Asthma and Emphysema. As children his siblings missed his presence but they were more upset that he had access to a McDonald’s and there were none in El Paso at the time. Even as a young child he was a voracious reader and could easily read a book every day. He was well known at the Memorial Park Library even as a child. He liked all subjects as long as he could hold a book in his hands, the longer the better. Bill graduated from Austin High School in El Paso in 1972. He enjoyed high school probably more than anyone on the planet and was involved with numerous organizations. He was especially fond of the Mask and Gavel Drama Club and Phi Chi. (Hey, hey look at the “A”) He received a BA from SMU in Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. Although he held positions as a Computer Operations Analyst at Bath Ironworks in Maine and Systems Marketing Analyst in El Paso, he was best known for his work as a disc jockey for several El Paso radio stations for over 20 years. He loved rock and roll and was the Casey Kasem of music knowledge in El Paso. You could hear his distinctive voice on air and in commercials and he considered it his perfect job. (His teacher once said you could give him topic as mundane as a “loaf of bread” and he could talk about it for over an hour.) He also served as Music and Public Affairs Director and Program Director in Las Vegas Nevada. A memorial service is scheduled for October 12th at 3:00 p.m. at Church of St Clements Memorial Gardens. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill’s life. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to National Jewish Health in Denver in his name.
