William Spier

April 19, 1937 — March 25, 2026

El Paso

William (Bill) Spier, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in Houston, Texas. He was born in April 19, 1937 to Kurt and Gertrude Spier and lived a life defined by quiet strength, kindness, and deep devotion to those he loved.

Bill was a native of El Paso and went on to proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a submariner, in part, because he was told the Navy had the best food of all the military branches. After his service, he lived his life centered on family, community, and simple joys. In 1962, Bill met the love of his life, Anne, on a blind date, and the two were married in 1963. Together, they built a life and family over six decades of marriage, marked by partnership, humor, and unwavering support for one another.

Bill was known for his calm and quiet demeanor. He had a kind word for everyone he met—family, friends, and strangers alike—and treated people with genuine warmth and respect. He also had a deep love of food and rarely passed up a good meal, especially when it meant gathering with those he loved. And while he was often soft-spoken, he never missed an opportunity to deliver an unmistakably awful joke, usually to the delight—or dismay—of those around him.

More than anything, Bill loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loving grandfather who found great joy in watching his family grow. He will be remembered for his gentle and accepting spirit and the steady example he set through a life well lived.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Kurt and Gertrude Spier, and his beloved wife, Anne Frank Spier. He is survived by his sons Marc and wife Mimi, Danny and wife Shari, and Alan and wife Suzanne. He is also survived by his nine cherished grandchildren Sam, Ben, Katie, Ellie, Libby, Alison, Joey, Josh and Ethan. He is further survived by his brothers Curtis Spier and wife Jacqueline, Jimmy Spier and wife Anne; and his sister Cita Cohen and husband Myles, as well as extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

A Graveside Service will be held at Temple Mount Sinai Cemetery on Sunday, March 29th. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bill’s memory to Temple Mount Sinai of El Paso, 4408 N. Stanton, El Paso, Texas, 79902 or Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas. Services are entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West, 480 N. Resler Dr., El Paso, Texas.
