Willie Esther Washington

Willie Esther Washington, departed from this life on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.   She was born to Gussie Smith Jackson and Roy Jackson on September 20, 1927 in Overton, Texas.  As an adult, she moved to El Paso, Texas where she met and married her beloved husband, Willie Washington, Jr. and raised their children.  She united with Visitors Chapel AME Church where she worshipped more than 50 years.  She served as church secretary, a Stewardess, on the Missionary Board and sang in the choir.  She was also a member of the Order of Easter Stars.

Willie Esther was preceded in death by her husband Willie (2006) and a son, Will Henry Lewis (2005).  She leaves to cherish her memories, three sons; Nathaniel Lee Washington (Wanda) and Carl Preston Washington (Bertha) of El Paso; Donald Ray Washington (Debi) of Silver City, NM; three daughters Alice Fay Hudson (Charles) of Memphis, TN;   Marilynn Rose Sanders (Harold) of Los Angeles, CA and Shirley Skinner of Austin, TX; sixteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by one sister, Jimmie Ruth Davis of Compton, CA, along with a host of nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, August 04, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Homes-East, 750 N. Carolina. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, August 05, 2022 at Visitors Chapel AME Church, 518 N. Estrella. Graveside to follow at 2:00 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
