Wm. Glen Newton

Wm Glen Newton, 90, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013. A longtime resident of El Paso, Glen was born in Laurenceburg, Tennessee to William and Susan Newton. He was a proud World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Corps as a medical technician with the rank of staff sergeant. Among his numerous military recognitions, he received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal and the Phillipines Liberation medal. Glen retired as a produce supervisor for Furr's Supermarket chain. His association with Furr's was featured in an El PasoTimes article on May 6, 2012. He enjoyed golf and was an avid fan of boxing, basketball and football especially the Dallas Cowboys. He was a member of the VFW Tigua Post 8782 and "Sunshine" Chapter 165 of Disabled American Veterans. Glen is survived by his wife Mary Singh Newton and daughters; Glenda Thornton, Frances Peaseland (Michael), Nancy Stone (Ken); four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; "adopted daughter" Pam Fernandez (Joseph); and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 with a vigil at 7 pm preceded with a ceremony by VFW Tigua Post 8782. at Sunset Funeral Home-East. Funeral Mass will be at 9:45 am Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at St Raphael Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 11 am. Immediately after interment, friends may pay their respects to the family at a tribute to Glen's life at the Holiday Inn, 6655 Gateway W. Blvd.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
